Our Board Members

  • Ray Howell

    Board Member

I have been in the Willow Creek Church-Prison & Jail Ministry for over 10 years. This has included servicing at McHenry County Jail and Cook County Jail on a weekly basis and numerous cell to cell visits to IDOC facilities. Other efforts have included bringing educational materials to prison tablets, visiting Angola Prison to experience their transformative, faith based philosophy and establishing the College of Restorative Arts at Stateville Correctional Center.

What I have learned from this experience is:

The incarcerated have huge potential for transformation and discovery of their highest potential given appropriate guidance provided by Freedom From Within.

They are not the same people who arrived in prison They are smart, creative and fully capable of successfully returning to community. Serving the incarcerated is a privilege and a personal growth journey for those who serve. Given different circumstances, I could have easily been one of them.

Educationally, I have a BA in Economics, MBA in Finance and a CPA and spent most my career in corporate finance with Motorola. I also co-founded a wireless communications network company.
