What Do You Think of You? Evigan’s Story
While incarcerated, my Celly asked me a profound question: "How do you view your essence, your being? What do you think of you?"
I didn't understand and replied, "I'm just surviving, living for the next meal." He told me, "What if I told you that you're a masterpiece?" He then shared a verse from Ephesians 2:10, which says that we are God's workmanship, a masterpiece crafted by Him.
My celly then asked if I would be open to reading some material from a program called "Freedom From Within." My Celly was a graduate of the program when he was at another joint. This program had a class focused on self-development and building character, which was exactly what I needed.
When the first packet from the program arrived, my brothers and I read it together in our cell. We managed to complete three packets before being separated due to COVID-19. After being transferred to another prison, I later discovered "Freedom From Within" program was being offered there. I was excited to finish what I started and signed up for it immediately.
This program truly helped me to develop my character and skills, preparing me for life after incarceration. It taught me important skills such as intrapreneurship, which proved invaluable when I was released and seeking employment. Knowing my value and what I could bring to the table helped me stand out in job interviews. Eventually, I was given the opportunity to work for the County Justice Advisory Council as a liaison, building community relationships with reentering individuals.
I am grateful for my mother and children, who are the main reason I wanted to change my life. Through family prayers and Freedom From Within, God not only changed my life, He transformed it.
